The Newlands Case
A HAUNTED SHOP AND TEA ROOM IN BICESTER
Outside Temp: 10 - 11c
Weather Partly: Cloudy with Sunny Spells & Light Breeze - No rain.
Ground Floor: High levels of EMF were present from the entrance to the first floor stairwell. We also found high EMF’s on an outside wall. We identified a fuse box under the stairwell, but this did not seem to record high EMF’s on our detectors. We did however identify high levels of EMF running along the floor around the main window towards the front of the shop and also the main entrance. These high readings stopped half way up the stairs nearing the first floor.
We surmised that there could well be underground cabling.

Matt Watkins: Technical Manager and Lead Investigator
Sheena Prew: Investigator
Investigation Time: 6 .5 hours
We arrived at the location and were greeted by the clients. Following a brief chat we were handed the shop keys and were left to set up and sweep the building. We immediately began to set up our equipment and placed IR cameras in the areas indicated by the clients as being paranormally active.
Camera 1: Located on the ground floor facing the stairwell.
Activity reported in this area: Members of shop staff have reported the feeling of being stopped or halted when trying to pass the stairs. The public have also said that there is an odd feeling as they have walked up and down these particular stairs. An apparition of a woman was reported to have been seen holding two full string shopping bags while renovations were being done to the shop. It is alleged that workmen looked up to see her standing there. She seemed to smile at the men and then turned and made her way upstairs. One of the work men went to try and stop her from going up fearing she would come to harm, but when he got to the top of the stairs there was no one there. The lady had simply disappeared!
Camera 2: Facing the mirrored cabinets on the back wall of the second floor. Camera to cover the whole left side of the entire second floor.
Activity reported n this area: Linda the shop owner was putting stock away in the mirrored cabinets when she saw the reflection of a man dressed in a gamekeeper’s uniform walking across the room.
Believing it was a customer, she turned to greet him, but there was no one there when she looked round. This shocked her just a little, but apparently didn’t scare her. Also the pet dog has been seen to play with someone invisible when there is no one there.
Camera 3: Top Floor, facing the room covering the whole of the area.
Activity reported in the area: Objects have been reported to have moved or been thrown in this top floor area. A tiara was apparently thrown across the room and bounced off a wall. During the preliminary investigation, some interesting K2 activity occurred in this area.
With all IR cameras set up, I took Matt and Sheena on a walk around where I showed them some of the apparent paranormal hotspots. At this point I did not tell them anything about the history of the shop, or the names of any of the ghosts that are reported to haunt this location.
We were all on the top floor and with a further 3 investigators expected to arrive shortly we assumed the door bell ringing signalled their arrival. I went down to the front door to let them in, but there was no one there. Thinking they may have walked around the corner of the building to the car park behind, I went to have a look, but again they were nowhere to be seen.
By this time Matt & Sheena had joined me also thinking that other team members had arrived. I explained that no one had arrived yet and that the sound heard was actually not the door bell chime as I pressed the doorbell to test it. We all puzzled as to where the other doorbell sound had come from? I asked the team if maybe it was one of their mobile phones as it may have been a text message signal, but as in all investigations our mobiles were already switched off, and left together in the coffee shop.
Later in the investigation I noticed there was a second doorbell located close to the first floor stairwell leading to the top floor of the shop. It had a sign saying please ring for help. I asked Sheena to press the doorbell, and to our amazement the sound was exactly the same as we had heard earlier that day!
